MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- Police say a Murfreesboro man has admitted raping a woman as she lay unconscious on the ground.
Murfreesboro Police say they arrested 50-year-old Gary W. Leathers on Monday, charging him with Aggravated Rape.
An incident report says police were called to an area near S. Walnut and Hillard Monday afternoon for what was initially thought to be a case of indecent exposure.
When they arrived on the scene, officers discovered Leathers and a 30-year-old woman. Both appeared to be intoxicated. The woman told police Leathers had “done things to her” before she passed out and was taken to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.
Witnesses told police they saw Leathers assault the woman repeatedly. Police say Leathers later confessed to having sex with the victim after she passed out.
Gary Leathers was booked into the Rutherford County Jail on a $50,000 bond and will appear in Rutherford County General Sessions Court September 15, 2015.
