Mufreesboro sends second emergency response team to South Carolina

MFRD

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The Murfreesboro Fire Department is sending a second special operations team to South Carolina to assist with flood rescue operations.

MFRD sent a team to the rain-soaked capital, Columbia, this past week. The department says the five man swift water rescue team has conducted a number of rescues and welfare checks.

A South Carolina resident took to the department’s Facebook page to thank the city for sending the crew to help out. The woman noted that the team had just knocked on her door to see if she was OK.

That team is expected to return to the mid-state today. A second team of rescue personnel from Murfreesboro arrived in South Carolina Friday and will assist with flood relief for at least a week.

South Carolina problems are far from over.  Gov. Nikki Haley is urging residents of Georgetown and other coastal areas to evacuate ahead of flooding that is expected as storm water flows down swollen rivers toward the coast.
